About

This is one of those odd pages that tell you about the club, site and other odd stuff.

The Club

The club was founded some tie before when we affiliated to the ACU in 1928. The club has been involved in lots of motorcyclesport. The club was involved in the starting of Brands Hatch (as a grass track circuit pre war). We have had member who have won trophies in the TT. In the past we ran Grass Tracks and Hill Climbs. Today we run Trials, Enduros, Long Distance Trials and Motocross (more info here) . The club acquired its track - Canada Heights - in the mid 1980s and has been improving facilities ever since. The biggest spectator event is the Early Birds MX, traditionally the first round of the British Championship and huge crowds (10,000+) pack the circuit to watch. From 1999-2001 the UK Sidecarcross GP was held here.

This Site

The site was started back in March 2000, although I was playing with a design as early as October 1999. It initially started with a cobbling together of the 6 gifs I could find of the Sidcup club and a club badges and a cannibalized PR brochure and other odd files. The site has snowballed since then. IT started off using something called Freenetname which was a too good to be true offer. You got 20mb and a .co.uk and all you had to do was use them as your pay as you go ISP. While I jumped on the bandwagon quick they stopped new sign up soon after. By late 2001 we started to run out of space. So I shifted the 5mb of Sidecar GP files to some free space which helped for a few months. We then found a very cheap ISP called 34sp.com , which offer great help and service for peanuts. For £15 (ish) you get 20mb of web space and the URL is £5 a year. We use more than that but they are great.

In terms of programs; for graphics I mainly use a free photo software called Irfanview, previously I used Ulead Photo Express - I should use something proper (eg Photoshop) but I haven't got around to it yet. For webdesign I used to use MS Word (evil I know), then I used Frontpage Express alongside and now I have seen the light and use Deamweaver. For uploading the site I use WS_FTP95 for ages. Technically, its all simple HTML, I do use frames (again I know its evil) and after a subsid course in webdesign, most recent stuff is in CSS. A major redesign has been on the cards for ages but I'm no graphic designer or programmer but a move to advanced tables, php, mambo, etc is a plan for the future. In terms of photos; I started off scanning in photos, progressing to a Kodak LS 443 digital camera and I have recently acquired a Cannon EOS-20D.

About Myself

Without sounding too vein ........ I was born in 1985 and currently a student at Keele University to do "International History and International Politics". In biking terms I have been about for ages it seams. When not organizing in some capacity I can been seen riding; currently a 250 Beta trials bike and 125 Suzuki for enduros and MX, all of which I compete at a very lowly level.
