On Sunday 3rd August, the Sidcup & DMCC held its first closed to club motocross of the year. Over eighty solos and two sidecars took part in an event with four classes. The first group consisted of experts and top juniors, the second group consisted of "normal" motocross juniors while the third groups were novices, trail, enduro, and twinshock. British Championship runners Ben Taylor, David Williams and Ben Lambert Williams dominated the expert group. In the third group a large number of club members new to motocross from the enduro world took part, they were also joined by some semi retired MX'ers like Ron Parkin on his twinshock CCM and Alan Clarke on his "special" Honda. In the sidecar class depleted due to a clash with pre-65 meeting, was full of specials with a right hand side sidecar and an enduro outfit that has never done any motocross. In the last race, a 45-minute marathon only 7 of the 18 starters finished with Ben Lambert Williams lapping everybody, however David Williams hurt his foot at the start of the race, snapping his Achilles tendon putting him out of action for an estimated 6 weeks. Everyone hopes Dave gets well soon. The next closed to club event will be on the Saturday/Sunday of the August bank holiday weekend, with an enduro on Saturday and motocross practise on the Sunday. The next motocross is this weekend, when the MR Thumpercross series, a fourstroke only event comes to visit - the most easterly outing for this West Country based series.
