No Such Thing As A Free Lunch !
By Matthew Grant-Browning ( Marshall point 3)
Sunday March 11 th 2007. I had pledged my support to my Club The mighty Sidcup & District MCC. Having negotiated missing my sons football match I turned up at 7.45am in probably the loveliest Spring morning so far this year . By the time I arrived the event was in full swing and the dedicated few at the heart of the operation were hard at work organising everything with considerable professionalism and flair. Something that has come to be expected of Sicup and its organisation. Lets not forget this meeting was an international grade with several GP riders in attendance. Not only this but the TV crew was on hand making this an important showpiece event.
Throughout the previous months a dedicated band of volunteers had transformed the track into a spectacular circuit, having made some innovative changes and increased accesibilty to the public.
The weather ( which had been hard for the working parties) had given way to perfect racing conditions.
I signed on and collected all the necessary bits and sought out the nearest bacon butty. Just a brief moment to say hi to a few folks and I made my way up to Marshall point 3 at the Orchard table Top. Once practice was underway it became clear the we were unlikely to be very busy . One chap seemed to have misjudged the take off and parachuted off his bike – no injuries and on his way.
It was a great opportunity to see the might of young Tommy Searle taking on the big boys – he’s a future superstar – my only hope is that he can resist the temptation of the USA and its GlamoCross.
I would like to thank the Sidcup team for such a momentous event – one that I am sure is regarded across the MX world as a top Class track and organisation.
Well done and thanks.
