July Moto X 2002

Sunday 14th July

Another round of the South Eastern Centre Championship for Experts, Juniors and 4-strokes and an ACE round for 4-strokes. Forty modern 4-stroke Moto-Cross bikes make a glorious sound at Canada Heights!

Report

On Sunday 14th July, the Sidcup club held a round of the South Eastern Centre Championships for Juniors, Experts and Fourstrokes, which incorporated a round of the ACE series. The event ran well on a beautiful summer's day with no major injuries.

The club changed the direction of racing for the first time in over 3 years, which meant that all riders were searching for new lines and the racing was markedly different from recent events. The racing was a lot faster on the two main straights and the "Ski" Jump attracted large crowd to watch the spectacular jumps being made by the expert and fourstroke riders.

In the Expert class in was a three-man battle between the club's leading members who were determined not to let anyone else succeed on their home track. David Williams beat Ben Taylor in the first race, as Ben seemed to be initially unsure about the new layout. However Ben soon regained his dominance with wins in the subsequent races. David Willet was left in second but he was also competing in the fourstroke class where he won all three races, which meant he competed in six races, which is incredible considering the heat. This left David Williams, winner of the first expert race, in third for the second and third expert races.

The next motocross at Canada Heights will be on the Sunday 11th August when the MR Thumpercross series visits.

Report from Alex's website (Team Reitveld)

Report from Here.

Date: Sunday 14th July 2002

RIDING:

Track: Canada Heights in Kent.

This is a sandy track with lots of tabletops, ski jumps and bombholes. On this occasion the track had been reversed making for some very difficult riding, particularly the bomb holes.

Event: South Eastern Championship, Expert Class

Results :

Heat 1à 22nd

Heat 2 à 20th

Heat 3 à 16th

Alexs’ comments on the day.

I normally love this track but reversed it was really different and I really could not get on, particularly with the bomb holes. I had a terrible time setting up my suspension so I spent all day being buffeted about. In heat 1 my gear lever worked loose, heat 2 I demolished 3 posts and whacked my back and in heat 3 I lost the jubilee clip off my carb which resulted in a bad power loss. Still, I finished all 3 heats and my results were not too bad. I later found out that no one really liked the track and there had been lots of complaints, particularly from the Experts who thought it was dangerously fast.

BIKE STUFF:

Managed to get my race bike fixed for this weekend, bit of a rush though as I was still fixing it 4pm on Saturday! The metal I found in the gear box oil last week was a busted bearing in the gearbox , now fixed. The bike was flying at Canada Heights and my mysterious rattle has gone so I think this bearing had been going for some time. Clutch hydraulics now OK too, but need to replace a clutch bearing this week, ran out of time last week. The KTM now needs a new jubilee clip fitted to the carb , the gear lever was worn out so a new one put on. Apart from this, no other damage which is surprising considering how hard I hit the fencing!

PERSONAL STUFF:

I’m hoping to get my tow-bar fitted to my car later this week and then I can start practising after work.
