British Championship Qualifier for Sidecars. The best of the teams will be able to race in the 2003 British Championship.This meeting is also the first chance in 2002 for local Centre solo riders to race on the spectacular track.

On Sunday the 31st of March the Sidcup Club held its first Regional Restricted motocross of the year, which included the first round of the British Sidecar Qualifying series. The track was in excellent condition and the weather stayed dry all day. There was excellent racing all day, especially in the sidecar class. In the Junior B's Nerys Williams was overjoyed with her two wins. There were over 160 solos and 26 sidecars. Unfortunately the last block of races were shortened due to accidents early on in the day to ensure everyone had 3 races. We wish the 3 injured riders a speedy recovery.

On Easter Sunday we were at Canada Heights for the Sidcup club's round of the qualifying championship. We both got flying starts in the first race, with Mum and Dad in sixth place and us in eighth, though we didn't stay there long as we ended up on our side going round the left hander just past the commentary tower when another two outfits decided that they didn't want us there. I stood up and was promptly knocked over again by the next crew to go past while Sue was hanging in mid air as her leg was caught up around the handrail/front panel. We got going again and then had to wait as the outfits who had pushed us had got stuck in a muddy section. We picked our way through them and much to our surprise, ended up finishing in thirteenth (out of twenty six) starters, earning ourselves 3 points. Mum and Dad were going very well in sixth until a couple of laps from the end when a spark plug oiled up. A quick plug change later saw them finishing in fifteenth place with one point. Their clutch took a bit of punishment on the last lap when someone stopped in front of them in the muddy bit.

Dad couldn't get his outfit started in the second race due to a slipping clutch. We didn't get such a good start this time (which may not have been such a bad thing as we stayed upright) but kept going to finish in eleventh place with another five points.

Dad had trouble getting their outfit started in the last race as well (it usually helps if the petrol is switched on!) so they missed a lap. We were circulating in the points, being held up by a slower rider that I just couldn't find a way past until about half way through the race when the engine made a funny noise and I stalled it straight away. It turned out to be a screwwhich had come loose and jammed up the clutch drum, which was easily fixed. Mum and Dad finshed in the points (even though they were a lap down) but I'm not sure in what position.
