Having newly acquired a modern trials bike of my very own (a 1999 250cc Beta) this was the first opportunity to test it so I made the long trek back down south (I'm at the University of Keele in the Potteries). On the saturday, with a a very ominous weather forecast i set of with my Dad (Alan, the clerk of the course) to set out the sections. We joined Colin Parkin at Canada Heights and set off to set out 10 sections. Two routes (Novice and Wobbler) of 10 sections were set out over the day. The novice route was modern trials bikes while the wobbler route was trail bike doable - which Alan demonstrated on my other bike, a 125cc Suzuki trail bike. As the afternoon went on the weather deteriorated just as we were leaving.
Sunday turned out to be lovely weather wise, although the rain had made some section quiet muddy. Despite having helped set out the sections, routes we hadn't anticipated appeared and still i made quiet a few silly mistakes. As the day went on i found out how little fuel modern trails bikes held - yes that right, i pushed up from the bottom of the hill - with some help, thanks Dad for the push and Dick for the fuel. I also improved as i got more practice so at the end of the day i was really happy.
Entry wise the club had a really high turn out of around 85 on all sorts of bikes from pre-67 to, trail to modern bikes. It was a really good day and i can't wait to have another play at the closed to club in November.
Sorry i've no photos as my camera is still broken from late August and i haven't got round to fixing it (I'm to lazy or busy or both!)
