Optoma Racing report (from here)

Dakar Mick gets top result in training for this year's race!

Optoma Loans rider Mick Extance got a top result this weekend at the Southern Enduro Championships meeting at Canada Heights in Kent. Britain’s most successful rider in the Dakar Rally, Extance from Spondon was taking part in the Expert Class in the event and came home in third place, Motocross expert Russ Jarman came home in front. The four hour Endurance was training for Mick ahead of the big race in January. "The course was harder and more physical than I was expecting, but it made me sweat which is always good. I was riding the standard Honda 450 X which felt great and now the countdown is well and truly on for Dakar."

The annual running of the Sidcup club's event at this historic venue saw both riders of team LFB line up at the start. The event, sponsored by Colin Hill racing, was once again held on a baking hot day - dust and dehydration were going to be the order of the day! Zade, on his Bike Tech Husqvarna was up to start first at 1041, Matt on the TriCounty KTM started a few minutes later at 1045. The first part of the course was a sign of things to come, very tight tracks in the woods and all off-camber with fallen logs and dust everywhere. The motocross track which is the second half of the course, by contrast, was fast and flowing with some of the course heading into the wood on the other side of the track. It wasn't long before both riders of team LFB started to suffer with the heat...on Lap 4 Zade began getting severe cramps in both legs and could do nothing but slow down to ease the cramps then press on and repeat the whole process a few minutes later - he managed to limp his Bike Tech Husqvarna TE250 home to 53rd of the 70 Clubman B class riders. Matt unfortunately began to suffer the effects of dehydration on lap 6 and had to retire his Tricounty KTM 250 EXC-F from the race.

It was a tough race but a good race!

Working Parties

Please lend a hand and help us set out another great course at Canada Heights

We need people to attend the working parties and help out on the day

Various tasks include stapling hundreds of arrows to trees, taping out a grass special test, banging in a few stakes (but the fewer the better), setting out the parc ferme and pit area, and opening up various gates and bits of fence to get on and off the motocross track

On the day, we need people to time the test, travelling marshals, checkpoint time recorders, and finally to pack it all away at the end of the day

Thanks for your support

Alan Woods (Enduro Secretary)

Info

This event is "open" to members of all ACU Clubs, if you haven't an Enduro licence you can buy a day licence on the day.

The course while be around Canada Heights.

NO MX rear tyres!!!

Directions to Canada Heights are here

You can arrive on Saturday and stay until Sunday or Monday for free.

Venue

For 2007 we've put the event "back" to September (hopefully it won't be so hot as our usual June date). The venue is Canada Heights, although beyond 2007 is an issue we are still not decided upon. There are a variety of other venue possible available to us (such as Mereworth) but many people enjoy riding Canada Heights - your thoughts on this matter are appreciated.
