Reports

Report 1 - By Jamie Clarke

The 2004 Sidcup Sixty trial was held it what can only be described as the best weather possible for January - no rain or cold. The trial itself was oversubscribed and the entry competing in classes as diverse as experts to pre-67 D, twinshocks to sidecars. The 20 sections laid out across the Canada Heights circuit proved the right test for the very varied ranges of class.

In the Expert class competing for the Youngs Cup, local rider Richard Ely won on 6, Ashley Newbery who has won this event seven times in the past cam a close second on 8. In the intermediates Shaun Wallis won on 29, closely followed by Chris Dark and Rob Fleet on 31, though Chris Dark was ridding his SWM against the modern competition. In the novice class Tom Cousins clinched it by 1, Against Derek Baker's 10. The modern Sidecars had an excellent event with a large entry and low marks - Nicky Read and Craig Fenner won on a remarkable 4, including a clean first lap, however they tied on marks with Dave Larkin and Sue Rawlings.

In the Pre 67 A Dave Shave won on 4, beating the best novice (who were riding the same red route). Malcolm Simmons took Pre 67 B on 10. In the Rigids (Pre 67 C) Stan Metcalf won on 35 followed closely on 39 by Bernard Rodemark. The Pre 67 D, the two strokes was a closely fought class between the winner Alan Ketley on 8, closely followed by Bryan Messenger on 10 and Les Matton and Graham Hayward shared Joint 3rd on 11. In the small but competitive twinshock class Dave Boroughs won on 11.

The next trial run Sidcup & DMCC will be the "Sidcup 30" again at Canada Heights on 25th April.

Report 2 - By Rob Fleet (Motorbiketrials.com)

Wet-cold & freezing that's normally the Sicup 60 down to a tee. Well for a change the sun was out and it was pretty mild, no snow was seen for the first time in years, I couldn't get out the car last year as the locks were frozen up and caused a bit of a laugh when trying to exit via the window.

Good entry of 122 riders and I was no3, early start and get round quick before the course gets chewed up by them bloody sidcars and makes the sections totally FUBAR!

Have I ever said those irc tryes are the nuts in the mud.

If you see me at section 19 giving it large then you would be queuing up for some of the same, doing the old cleaning trick twice. They defiantly grip where most don't, i was a little worried when watching a few riders fall on their backsides on the exit of the white and blue route, tricky little camber up hill that was by the second lap well chewed up, but with little throttle i found grip and cruised across no problem.

Pleased to say I beat Gazza and Andy Ely that's all that matters in the results for me, as for the bloke who beat me by a few silly marks and Chrisy Dark 'Ive got an old SWM that deserves to be in a museum' who lost the same marks as me but beat me on the most ones, that was well annoying but at the end of the day it shows how good a rider Mr Dark is on that vintage 2-stroke.

I had a mare of a ride!!.... Stuck throttle on the first few sections due to the freezing cold first thing in the morning, which the old scorpa suffers from every time I ride the Sidcup 60.. BUGGER!!.

Also losing stupid marks on section 4 due to the lack of co'ordination between rider and bike having dropped a 3 through the tree on the exit and having a dab on the tree route, what a most annoying moment. Cleaned it come the second lap then messed up Lou`s section (five) which was by my standards fairly easy. NOT!!!. Who laid out this Trial??????

Ben Wibberley was looking on the ball on most of the sections on the white route, He seems to get that gassa where most riders can not, and is pretty damn good in the mud. I think i will just have to come up to whites to show him how its done, just to let him know the old boys can still dance with the best of em.........

Old you what im only 21.

The section, which always sticks in my mind at Canada Heights is always the log steps. After last seasons most successful evening trials series this section took most of the wear and tear and most of the logs had been demolished, but some kind people took it upon themselves to rebuid it. The last log at the top was a little bit bigger then last years and was catching out quiet a few of the blue and white route riders, i managed to clean it the first lap but came a cropper on the second lap getting caught up on the last log and almost loosing my crown jewels!.................. Lee 'i can only be bothered to ride once a month' Brocklehurst was trying all sorts to get to the top after the trial and messed it big style a couple of times, and i have the pics.

Well done goes to Richard Ely for winning the experts and to Ben Ely for thrashing his class, miles in front. And also everyone else who came in the awards.

Well its short and blunt but! Ive lost interest and is signing off, so see you down at the Dunlop where I will be doing the David Bailey impression and will get most of you ugly lot on camera in the most embarrassing positions, so look out and smile, and don`t run me over!

Thanks az always goes to the following…..the Sidcup club for a most excellent trial and also the clerk of the course Mr Les Watts, Mr Clark, Dicky boy and the Gazza ive got a new Camera Robert`s, Lou and anyone else that was involved.

Thanks a lot and see you next year.
