Report
By Clerk of the Course Alan Clarke
Last Sunday dawned bright and sunny but with a cold easterly wind but this did not deter the 54 hardy souls who rode at least four laps of ten sections laid out around Canada Heights. Machines being ridden ranged from an early 1950's AJS through all the Spanish two Strokes, Villiers engined Sprites and the like to Tiger cubs, Hondas and all the modern state of the art trials wonders.
The Clerk of the course laid out two routes one for those who had ridden trials before and were considered to be slightly on the easy side of a novice trial and a beginners route planned to allow the first timer a good chance of recording a clean or two.
Peter Burrell, the Sidcup club's President, was circulating at High speed on his long distance trials bike a 400cc Honda and Peter assured me that in six efforts at each section he cleaned all with the exception of one where his best was to drop one mark. Mr Bedwell senior was stopped and asked how he was getting on and with a grin from ear to ear reported that he was on his seventh lap and loving it!
A number of regular riders took the opportunity to ride round with there children and several youngsters on 50cc trials bikes were busy on the easy route. Whilst this was going on at least three young lady riders were seen both riding selected sections under parental guidance and one Mr Steve Wales a recent convert from the road riding brigade was seen discussing with terra firma who was in charge!
The event was finished and all cleared away by 4.00pm,a big thankyou to all who helped both on the Saturday when laying out sections to those who did the secretarial bits, took the money and signed the riders in, generally policed the venue during the day and helped clear up at the end.
