Lagoon

Archeological Dig

Monday 5th July

The proposed lagoon's location will be in Dartford District Council so we have applied for planning permission from them and the condition of it being granted is an archeological dig (paid for by the club) .

So to show you where the club members money is going here is a brief photo gallery of the dig.

Here is the trench that was dug. At the end is Colin Bushell with one of the Archeologists.

The trench - at the end, Colin Bushell with one of the Archeologists.

A cross section of the trench - here we have sand, wet mud and sandy gravel.

What was found:

The stone, is a secondary or tertiary deposited stone age (or similar) tool. Its been shaped by another stone all the way round. In english there are loads of these all over the place and its been washed here by water.

The tear off is very old looking, almost like grease paper - I'm told tear off were in invented in the 1970's so very old.

To the right is a lump of green plastic - I'm guessing a bit off a Kawasaki....

Above the green plastic is a lump of tarmac that was found over a meter down - made a real nice smell which added to the rotting organic matter (wet mud) smell.

Bottom left is a lump of not very rotted lump of chestnut fencing - this was found some a way down.

Bottom right is a lump of aluminum, that doesn't look like a can or a bike bit so ......
